Event Series

2023 Nature Thinking

Art Switch’s 2023 Edition of [re]Framing the Arts — Nature Thinking — brings together a dynamic series of events including talks, movie screenings, and performances between October 21 — 27, 2023 in New York. The programming will take place throughout the city thanks to partnerships with Amant, Anthology Film Archives, Hauser & Wirth, and Swiss Institute.

In this fifth iteration, we will shift our attention towards nature, its central position and impact on the arts. The programming series will bring together artists, curators, cinematographers, directors, and academics to discuss how nature and artistic creation can be in symbiosis when aligned on a similar pace, materiality, and circularity.

The conversations will explore the interconnectivity that characterizes our relationship to and within nature and how this can impact the artistic sector as a whole. We will consider how humans can be intra-acting with nature, inviting each other into the artistic process, and the implications this has on curatorial, artistic, and educational practices. Moving past the Western division of nature and culture, we will discover what can be accomplished within the structure of nature thinking. What language and artistic tools can be used to stay true and connect to nature? How can nature become art, and art become nature?

For this programming series, we are thrilled to be partnering with different organizations in the city to create a network of discussions, connections and community.
