We are  a NYC/Amsterdam-based nonprofit in the field of Art and Climate Action. We educate, engage, and connect artists, scientists, academics, and art professionals. We are a multidisciplinary platform centering on public programming, conferences, and exhibitions with a focus on climate forward and regenerative art practices.

Our activities are community-centered and establish networks necessary for a systemic climate-conscious shift in the arts. Always curious about how the micro-level informs the macro and vice versa, our practice is fueled by interdisciplinarity and an eagerness to bridge the gaps.

Art Switch’s 2023 programming series, [re]Framing the Arts: Nature Thinking in New York City,  explored how nature and artistic creation can be in symbiosis when aligned on a similar pace, materiality, and circularity. In collaboration with institutions throughout the city, the event attracted a diverse audience and fostered lively discussions on the artist’s and institution’s role in creating current and future climate practice. 

In 2020/2021 the online conference series [re]Framing Arts: A Sustainable Shift, in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam and Nyenrode Business University, created the foundation for a vibrant community committed to a more sustainable art world. The series brought together academics, art professionals, curators, artists, logistics managers, art shippers and insurers to share experiences, case studies, and ideas to radically rethink the art world towards more climate conscious practices.

State of Matter: Mapping Nature’s Pulse is an exhibition with accompanying public programming in NYC. Artists will explore the transformations occurring within geological, botanical, and animal systems as a result of climate stresses—inviting visitors to shift their perspectives and envision their transition to a multi-species existence. Sending metaphorical ripples through the city, State of Matter will encourage attendees to reflect on the interconnectedness of humans and nature. 

As an institution without walls, Art Switch is proud to partner with a multitude of globally renowned cultural organizations and art galleries, with whom we collaborate on programming activities, conferences and exhibitions, both on-site or in the digital sphere. 

Previous partners include Amant, Anthology Film Archives, Hauser & Wirth, Nyenrode Business School, Open Library of Humanities, the Swiss Institute, and the University of Amsterdam.
